Judge's Ruling Means Horse Slaughter Operation One Step Closer to Opening

Now, only DNR ruling holding back Rains Natural Meats from beginning horse slaughtering.
(GALLATIN, Mo.) A northwest Missouri meat processing plant is one step closer to getting approval to slaughter horses.

A judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by animal rights groups that sought to prevent Rains Natural Meats of Gallatin from opening operations. Another plant in New Mexico was included in the suit and may also be near opening as a horse slaughter plant.

The final step for Rains Meats is now to get approval from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for its lagoon to be used as a run-off.
