(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) A routine stop at a convenience store turned into a multimillion dollar trip for a Kansas City Couple.

Kevin Carlson, 49, and his wife won the $71.5 million Powerball jackpot in the drawing that took place on Christmas Day.

Carlson said he stops at the Autobahn BP in Platte Woods almost daily.

"Every morning that I work, I stop to get a coffee and a little something to eat," said Carlson.

When he stopped at the store the day after the drawing, he was shocked to learn he had a winning ticket.

"The first time I scanned it, I didn't believe it, so I scanned it again," he said. "I kind of went nuts."

Carlson worked as a mechanic, but decided to quit after the big win. His wife plans to keep her job for now.

The convenience store received a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
