The Oakland Raiders whittled their opening day roster down to the mandatory 53 yesterday, and a former Northwest Bearcat was not on the list.
Linebacker Chad Kilgore was one of 17 player the team waived. He also was not signed to the practice squad.
Kilgore turned heads in the Raiders' preseason as one bright spot in a shallow linebacking corps. The former All-American totaled 11 tackles in three of Oakland's exhibition games.
Despite the disappointment, Kilgore's still optimistic there is football in his near future.
"You hear about guys who aren't even on the Raider right now getting called two days or a week later," he said. "I have some good film from those preseason games. I've got, at least, a foot in the door."
Kilgore said he would not rule out playing in the United Football League.
