(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Northwest softball split their first-ever doubleheader with Lindenwood as an MIAA opponent Saturday, falling 10-6 before scoring a 5-2 extra innings victory in the second meeting.
The Bearcats (20-12, 8-8) got off on the right foot, dropping three runs in the first inning with Hailee Hendricks' three-run home run.
The Lions (18-20, 9-9) struck back with eight of the next nine scores of the contest, beating up on Jenna Creger (9-7) to the tune of five hits and eight runs. Kendall Ryndak (7-7) pulled back to .500 with the victory on the mound, striking out three Bearcats in five innings.
Hendricks finished with four RBI, while Rachael Schmitz was responsible for the other two.
The second game began with a slower pace as Northwest didn't hang the first pair of runs in the third inning. Schmitz scored the opening run on a wild pitch before Candace Miller belted an RBI single.
Lindenwood chipped away with a tally in each of the next two innings, sending the game to extras. Kylie Cantrell then ended the game emphatically in the eighth, hitting a three-run homer to deliver the Bearcats' 20th win of the year.
Abbie Vitosh (7-3) secured the victory, striking out eight and surrendering just four hits in a complete game.
