Lyon Announces Retirement, New Role as Safety Council Director

A veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop H in St. Joseph is making a career change. Sgt. Sheldon Lyon is retiring after 29 years of service to the Highway Patrol.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is making a career change.

Sgt. Sheldon Lyon is retiring after 29 years of service to the Highway Patrol. Lyon spent more than 15 years as the Public Information and Education Officer for Troop H in St. Joseph.

Lyon said he plans to keep working. He has accepted the role of Executive Director for the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council. He said he will take over full-time on April 1.

Lyon replaces Jackie Spainhower as executive director. She has been with the Safety Council since March of 2010.

Spainhower and Lyon will share some duties at the Safety Council over the next couple months during the transition.

The Safety Council is a non-profit organization that offers safety training and educational programs in the community and workplace.
