(PLATTE CITY, Mo.) The trail of damage continues to grow in a deadly arson investigation in Platte City.

Authorities now say they believe the body they found in one of the torched vehicles is that of the man responsible for the crimes.

Investigators say 12 vehicles were set on fire in Platte City starting about 5:30 a.m.

The vehicles were all within a three block radius.

The Platte City Police Department found the man dead inside a truck that had been set on fire at 2114 Wilkerson Drive.

Police believe he is responsible for entering 14 vehicles and setting 12 of them on fire, including the truck he was found inside.

Investigators are searching for any information that might explain the motive behind these fires.

"The investigators out here, both police and fire, will continue to do interviews and examine each vehicle in the scene and collect evidence," says Erik Holland, of the Platte County Sheriff's Department.

A preliminary identification has been made on the body, but authorities will not release his name until they proceed with fingerprint identification.

They say it could be next Wednesday before the man is identified.
