The win extends Maryville's state-leading win streak to 29 games and puts them in the Class 3 State Championship game for the second straight year.
The Pintos pressured and made contact with quarterback Trent Nally throughout the first half, but the Spoofhounds (14-0) managed a pair of big scoring plays. Dalton Pistole recovered a California fumble in Maryville territory and returned it for the game's opening touchdown midway through the second quarter.
Following a two-point conversion, Payden Dawson broke a 43-yard scoring run to put Maryville on top 14-0.
With momentum against them, California prevented the game from getting out of hand as Walker Borghardt returned the ensuing kickoff to cut the deficit to 14-7 at halftime.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter as the Pintos kept Maryville out of the end zone in 1st and goal situations on back-to-back series. The Spoofhounds made good on one fourth-quarter chance as Nally hit Adam Thompson for a 13-yard touchdown to help push the lead to 22-7.
Jaden Barr kept the Pintos in it on their next series with a 53-yard keep for a touchdown, but California could get no closer than nine points.
Maryville will face Seneca on Saturday, Nov. 30th at 11 a.m. at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
