(ABC) Ryan Ferguson has spent almost a decade in a maximum security prison for a brutal murder he, and many others, insist he didn't commit. But finally, the 28-year-old believes he could be days away from getting a phone call that could set him free.

Ferguson was sent to prison for the 2001, Halloween night murder of Columbia Daily Tribune sports reporter, Kent Heitholt.

Two key witnesses in Ferguson's trial have since recanted their testimony, saying they were pressured by police to testify against Ferguson.

Despite those testimonies, a judge ruled there was not enough new evidence during a 2012 court hearing.

Judges are currently reviewing an appeal to that ruling.
