Missouri Western State University has been awarded a one-million dollar research grant, the largest of its kind in the University's history.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Missouri Western State University has been awarded a $1 million dollar research grant, the largest of its kind in the University's history.

The National Science Foundation awarded the three-year grant for synthetic biology research.

It will give 18 undergrads full-time research jobs during the summer.

Western says this was a very competitive grant, and the new resources will bring a lot of attention to Missouri Western State University.

"We have had evidence that people have heard about things going on here, during the summer, during synthetic biology research studies and other studies that has led students to look at this school and make it one of their highest priorities," said Dr. Jeff Poet, Professor of Mathematics.

The grant will also help pay for research supplies and new lab equipment.
