New Bridge Interchange Coming to Highway 36

A new bridge with full ramps and access to a new Ag-Business Expo Center is set to be built in May/June, 2014.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A project to build a new bridge and ramp system on US Highway 36 has been approved and is now in the planning stage.

Engineers from MODOT meet with city and county officials to discuss the status of a project that is centered on the planned Ag-Business Expo Center east of St. Joseph.

The multimillion dollar interchange is being called the "Gateway to St. Joseph," and will include a bridge over the highway and on and off ramps.

It's planned to be built one mile east of the riverside road exit.

"When you start with conceptual ideas, you have to go through the whole step actually finding dollars, finding what criteria you're going to have.  There's a lot of detailed work that goes into getting where you can actually turn dirt," said area engineer Michael Rinehart.

Rinehart says they hope to begin construction in the late spring or early summer of next year.
