New Numbers Reveal Hot Housing Market

According to the St. Joseph Regional Association of Realtors, December sales were up nearly 28 percent over 2012. Overall, the year brought an increase in sales of 9.25 percent over 2012.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The housing market brought a big finale to 2013 for St. Joseph realtors.

According to the St. Joseph Regional Association of Realtors, December sales were up nearly 28 percent over 2012. Sales in 2013 totaled approximately $12.4 million compared to nearly $9 million in 2012.

Overall, the year brought an increase in sales of 9.25 percent over 2012. Realtors sold 1,239 units in 2013 compared to 1,121 units in 2012.

The hot housing market goes beyond St. Joseph. The national report shows that home sales are at an 8-year high.

CNN reports that more than 5 million previously owned homes were sold in 2013, which is up about 9 percent from 2012 and nearly 20 percent from 2011.

Realtors credited rising prices, lower unemployment, a drop in foreclosures and demand for the gains.
