New School Construction Falls Behind Schedule

Builders say it could be October by the time the new northeast school is ready for students.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St.Joseph School District Superintendent Dr. Fred Czerwonka received some bad news regarding new school construction.

Builders told the district they are now behind schedule and completion of the new northeast school could be delayed at least two months.

Because the district needs to develop new school boundaries, that puts a big crimp in the plans to get all students moved by August.

"You really can't move after the start of school in August because then you have a certain amount of students that start in one place then two months later or five months later going to a new building," Czerwonka said. "That'll just be hard to do. You definitely don't want to have your building stay empty for ten months."

The new northeast elementary school will be located on Cook Road and the Carden Park school will be just south of 13th and Mitchell St.
