Northeast Kansas Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death

(TROY, Ks.) A northeast Kansas man is charged with murder after a shooting that happened over the summer.

Eric Burge, 25, faces a charge of second degree murder in the death of Matthew Sollars, 25.

He is also charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm in an occupied dwelling and hosting a party with minors.

According to Doniphan County Sheriff Chad Clary, the charges stem from a gathering at a home southwest of Troy in early August.

Clary said at the time that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) was called in on the case after things didn't add up at the scene.

Emergency crews were originally called to the home where they were told a man had shot himself.

Burge was arrested Tuesday. He is now being held in the Jerry K. Dubach Law Enforcement Center in Troy on a $500,000 bond.

Clary said the investigation is still ongoing.
