(OVERLAND PARK, Kan.) Northwest Missouri State's softball season came to a close Saturday with a 9-2 loss to Northeastern State in the MIAA Tournament.
The Bearcats (27-19) lost to top-seed Central Oklahoma on Friday in the first round of the double-elimination tournament, and couldn't hang with Northeastern in the losers' bracket.
Northwest's ace pitcher Jenna Creger took the loss giving up six runs, four earned, in four innings. she allowed eight hits and two walks, and struck out five.
Hailee Hendricks put Northwest on the scoreboard first when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third. Rachael Schmitz scored on the play, but it was all Riverhawks after that.
Northeastern scored four in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Kylie Cantrell hit a solo homer for the Bearcats in the bottom of the fourth to get Northwest within two, but it wasn't enough.
Jordan Ereth and Madison Jones were the only Northwest players with multi-hit games.
The Bearcats won just two of the final seven games they played in the season.
