(EMPORIA, Kan.) Four Northwest pitchers surrendered 18 hits against Emporia State Sunday as the Bearcats suffered a 10-6 loss, giving the Hornets the series win.
Chase Anderson (4-5) toed the rubber to start, taking the loss after allowing five runs off eight hits. Brian Schmiedt came on in relief, but failed to record an out as the Hornets hung another three scores.
Emporia opened things in the first with an RBI single by Blake Sturgeon. Northwest then grabbed their only lead of the afternoon in the second with RBI from Charlie Krueger and Steven Garber.
The Hornets scored seven of the next eight runs, securing a 9-3 advantage before Tyler Durant attempted to light a spark with a solo home run in the seventh.
Sturgeon and Aareon Rea finished with three RBI apiece for Emporia.
The Bearcats travel to Nebraska-Kearney for their next doubleheader on Wednesday.
