Northwest Picked to Win MIAA in Media, Coaches Polls

Missouri Western tied for first in coaches, second in media despite first outright conference title in 2012.
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The MIAA Preseason Media and Conference polls have been released, and after winning the conference title outright for the first time in program history, Missouri Western isn't expected to repeat, at least according to one.

In both polls, Northwest Missouri State was selected to win the conference crown in 2013 with six first place votes and 159 total points in the coaches poll and 300 in the media poll.

MWSU also had six first place votes and 159 points in the coaches poll, but tallied six points behind the Bearcats in the other. Each received the same amount of first-place votes in both polls.

Last season the Bearcats went 10-3 overall, 8-2 MIAA, and came within one point of winning the MIAA. The Griffons edged them 21-20 in the final game of the regular season. Northwest's playoff run ended two weeks later in a 38-35 overtime loss to Minnesota State Mankato.

Missouri Western posted a program-best 12-2 record a season ago, and advanced to the regional final for the first time before losing 17-10 to Minnesota State.
