(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The process to become a candidate for two seats on the St. Joseph Board of Education has begun.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, resident taxpayers in the St. Joseph School District, Missouri residents for at least one year preceding the election and at least 24 years old. Petition forms are available now at the superintendent's office. Potential candidates have until Jan. 14 to submit the petitions with signatures of at least 750 registered voters of the district.

The first day candidacy can be officially declared is Dec. 17.

Under a new board policy, candidates will draw a number when filing their declaration of candidacy on Dec. 17. At the end of that day, the numbers will be ranked in order to determine the order of names on the ballot. Any declarations after Dec. 17 will be added to the ballot after those who declare on that day.

The positions currently held by Sue Wagner and Sarah Siemens are both six year terms. The election will be held on April 8.
