Robinette, Baker Lead St. Joe Past Tulsa

The Mustangs advance deeper in the NBC World Series with a win over the Tulsa Braves.

(WICHITA, Ks.) With plenty of run support from his offense, starting pitcher Aaron Baker delivered a second straight solid outing for the St. Joseph Mustangs in another NBC World Series win.

Led by Baker, St. Joe beat the Tulsa Braves 8-2 in Wichita, Kansas.

The Belton native allowed just two earned runs on five hits in eight innings. He also struck out three batters in the contest.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Mark Robinette, going against a team from his hometown of Tulsa, tripled home Saulyer Saxon and Kyle Simpson to put St. Joe up 2-0. Catcher Tanner Lubach followed with an RBI-ground out two batters later to grab a three run lead.

The Braves answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but St. Joseph increased the lead to 5-1 with an additional pair of runs in the third inning.

Robinette led the Mustangs going 4-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Saxon tacked on two more hits and two runs, while Simpson added three hits and three runs.

St. Joe advances to play again in Wichita on Saturday, but it does not have an opponent yet. The Mustangs will play the winner of the Newton-Dodge City game.

Manager Matt Johnson says Cody Cunningham will start game three of the double-elimination tournament.
