(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph lawmaker has proposed amending the Missouri Constitution in order to protect citizen's electronic data.

Republican State Senator Rob Schaaf sponsored SJR27, which "provides that a person's electronic communication and data are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures performed by the government."

The amendment would require a warrant that describes the, "data or communication to be accessed," and would also require probable cause.

The proposed amendment received a second reading in the Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee on January 9.
