Semi Truck Driver Charged in Deadly Crash

The Platte County Sheriff's Department believes alcohol played a role in the crash.
(PLATTE COUNTY, Mo.) A semi truck driver faces involuntary manslaughter charges in a deadly crash on a northwest Missouri highway.

Adam Shaw was charged hours after the crash on 45 Highway near Farley in Platte County Tuesday morning.

The Platte County Sheriff's Department believes alcohol played a role in the crash.

Deputies say Shaw was driving northbound on 45 Highway when his semi-truck crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic.

The semi collided with a truck and a mini-van.

The accident killed Catherine Nienaber, of Kansas City, Kansas.

Her 7-year-old son was seriously hurt.

The driver of the truck, Rodney Griffin of Atchison, Kansas, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

45 Highway was shut down most of the day.
