SJSD Superintendent Holds Town Hall Meeting

Technology, board policies and textbooks were just a few of the topics discussed.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St. Joseph residents had a chance to learn more about the St. Joseph School District Tuesday evening.

District officials held a town hall style meeting at the Troester Media Center.

Superintendent Dr. Fred Czerwonka led the discussion.

Topics ranged from technology, school board policies, pre-kindergarten schooling and even textbooks and workforce development.

Czerwonka said one of his goals after taking over the job last summer was to talk to as many people as possible.

"I've been able to do that whether at their location, the child's school, or pick-up or drop-off or whatever," Czerwonka said. "We wanted to invite those without the opportunity who may not have kids in school to be able to come out and share their thoughts and ideas."

Another topic the superintendent touched on was the start times for school. Czerwonka said they are working on a new plan. He says there are many problems with the current system of having high school students start classes almost 1 1/2 hrs. earlier than grade school students.
