South Dakota Man Killed in I-29 Crash

A two-vehicle crash north of St. Joseph on Interstate 29 claimed the life of a South Dakota man Saturday night.
(ANDREW COUNTY, Mo.) A two-vehicle crash north of St. Joseph on Interstate 29 claimed the life of a South Dakota man Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Michael Cohoon, 54, of Brandon, S.D., was killed after the 2005 Freightliner he was driving struck the back of a another truck around 7 p.m. Saturday night about 11 miles North of St. Joseph.

According to a crash report, Gary Grable, 56, of St. Joseph, was pulling a 1997 GMC boom truck off the shoulder and back on to the interstate his truck was hit by Cohoon's.

Cohoon's truck went off Southbound I-29 and jackknifed. Grable's truck rolled once in the median before landing on its wheels in the median.

Wayne Mitchell, 46, of St. Joseph, was taken to Heartland with minor injuries. He refused treatment. Grable received minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
