Southside Hit-and-Run Sends Boy to Hospital

A 12-year-old boy is suffering from a possible broken leg after being hit by a car while riding his scooter.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)    A 12-year-old boy is suffering from a possible broken leg after being hit by a car while riding his scooter.

The beige vehicle was driving west on Virgina Street when the boy failed to stop at the stop sign, and ran into the side of the car.

The car then took off.

Police say the scooter wasn't built to be on the road.

"This thing, in no way shape or form, meets any of the requirements for a scooter. It does not have a headlight, it does not have a taillight. The break, the one and only break does not work on it. It should not be on the street at all," said Officer Scott Gary.

Officer Gary added that this type of scooter is more suitable for riding around on an open field; Not on a city street.
