(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) As the St. Joe Mustangs begin their postseason run, they will do it with a shuffled roster.
Everyday shortstop and lead-off hitter, Maxime Lefevre, will leave the team to play in the European section of the World Baseball Classic. Manager Matt Johnson hopes to have Lefevre return to the team by August 1st.
Johnson says middle infielder Tim Caputo will also step away from the Mustangs on July 24th for a planned family event.
He anticipates Shane Segovia will step into the void at shortstop for St. Joseph. Patrick Burkhart is expected to be the new lead-off hitter in Lefevre's absence.
The Mustangs did bring in a new addition.
Saulyer Saxon from Oklahoma State joins the team for Friday's game.
Saxon is entering his sophomore season as a Cowboy in 2012. As a freshmen, he played in 14 games in Stillwater.
"We've been trying to get him in for a couple weeks," Johnson said. "Ever since Emilio's kind of been hurt, we've been trying to get some one else to pad out center field."
Saxon's first contest as a Mustangs comes Friday night as the MINK Playoffs begin in Sedalia.
