St. Joseph Man Charged with Sexual Assault

A St. Joseph man has been charged with sexual assault after he allegedly raped a mentally impaired woman.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph man has been charged with sexual assault after he allegedly raped a mentally impaired woman.

St. Joseph Police say Tony Hughes, 50, forcibly raped the victim between October and December of last year. Court documents state the victim is mentally impaired and was, "not capable of making an informed consent." The victim became pregnant and gave birth to a girl on July 15 this year.

Paternity tests concluded that Hughes was the baby's father.

A probable cause statement also states Hughes has a past criminal history.

Hughes is being held on a $5,000 cash bond and a $45,000 surety bond.
