St. Joseph Man Wanted for Manslaughter Arrested in Jasper County

Shawn Winkfield-Maynard, 24, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the drowning death of an infant.
(CARTHAGE, Mo.) A man charged with involuntary manslaughter in Buchanan County has been arrested and is being held in Jasper County.

Officials from the Jasper County Sheriff Department confirm that Shawn Winkfield-Maynard was arrested in their county Wednesday evening.

He's being held on the manslaughter charge with a $70,000 surety bond, plus $5,000 cash.

A lieutenant from the Carthage Police Department says a St. Joseph detective gave them a tip that Winkfield-Maynard was in Carthage Wednesday evening.

The Jasper County Drug Task Force and county deputies assisted in the arrest when Winkfield-Maynard was identified in his vehicle in Carthage around 6:30pm.

Earlier this month, the Buchanan County prosecutor's office charged Shawn D. Winkfield-Maynard, 24, with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kion Winkfield-Maynard.

According to authorities, the baby drowned at a home in the 800 block of North 5th Street on August 2.

A probable cause statement alleges Mr. Winkfield-Maynard left his son unattended in a bath tub with water for an extended period of time.

Police said two adults - the baby's father and an uncle - were home at the time. They told police the boy accidentally drowned in the bathtub.

Officers in Carthage say Winkfield-Maynard was arrested without incident. His passenger was the baby's mother, Nicole Lasgow.
