The library said the changes follow a usage study and a survey that sought information from patrons.
The changes include the following new hours for the East Hills Library branch:
Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Monday through Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The new hours make it easier for groups and organizations to use the free meeting space available at the East Hills branch.
Other changes impact the hours at the Downtown Library branch.
The new hours are as follows:
Monday through Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Hours for the Carnegie Library and the Washington Park Library will remain the same.
The move follows cuts to library hours back in 2009. Sunday hours were eliminated at that time to cut costs. A long-range planning committee revisited the changes in 2012 and asked the Library Board of Trustees to reinstate Sunday hours in the system. The board approved that request.
