St Joseph Symphony Hosts Elementary Kids

The St. Joseph Symphony performed for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in three separate shows at the Missouri theater.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The St. Joseph Symphony hosted students from the St. Joe School District.

The event was an annual show used to promote classical music to kids.

Elementary fine arts coordinator Darren Verbick said it's important to get kids involved with the arts.

"There has been study after study after study that says kids who are involved in fine arts do better on standardized tests," Verbick said.

The symphony catered to the younger crowd by dressing in costumes and playing familiar songs.

"I play trumpet so I kind of knew what they were doing," one student said.

Students in St Joseph can start playing instruments in 6th grade.
