(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St. Joseph's Tea Party Patriots is enlightening the community on the state's gun laws.

The organization held its monthly meeting at East Hills Library on Thursday.

They discussed what it takes to carry a gun and who can have one.

A local sheriff and concealed carry weapon instructor explained Missouri's gun law, the safety of guns, and why it's important to follow the gun law.

"Gun ownership is constitutional. So, we're, of course, we back it 100 percent. If you want a gun, we think you ought to have one. But we also think you ought to be trained on how to handle it properly. And part of the properly handling guns, means, you've got to learn the laws," said Ellis Cross.

The St. Joseph Tea Party's next meeting is Thursday, Jan. 9,  at 7 p.m., at East Hills Library.

Meetings are open to the public.
