(WICHITA, Ks.) The St. Joseph Mustangs ended their winning streak with a 8-6 loss to the Santa Barbara Foresters Wednesday evening at the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan.
The Foresters, winners of the NBC World Series a year ago, pounded out 18 hits. Six players in their lineup had multi-hit games.
The Mustangs offense was also impressive. Eight of the nine Mustangs' starters had at least one hit, including multi-hit performances from Saulyer Saxon, Kyle Simpson and Patrick Burkhart.
"This game was a battle," Burkhart said. "With a back-and-forth game like this, we want to go out and score every inning."
Adam Maddox was the losing pitcher for the Mustangs. He went 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on 12 hits. Maddox was relieved by Phillip Wilson who allowed one run in 3.1 innings of work.
The Mustangs will play an elimination game Thursday evening against either the Greeley Grays or the Seattle Studs. The starting time has yet to be determined.
