(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It took two nights after the Mustangs finished their regular season schedule, but they finally have an opponent in the MINK Playoffs beginning Friday.
The Sedalia Bombers win the MINK South Division after Ozark lost its first game of a doubleheader against Joplin sealing its fate.
The Bombers head to the playoffs with a 23-19 league record. Mustangs manager, Matt Johnson, knows what Sedalia brings to the table.
"They're a very high caliber, tough team. Sedalia's been at the top of the league last few years, and we're getting probably the best team out of South."
In the season series with Sedalia, St. Joseph (26-16 MINK) split it with three games apiece.
"We've played competitive games against them all year, and we expect nothing less," Johnson said. "We're just going to try to go out there and win."
Through the six meetings between the Mustangs and Bombers, St. Joe has outscored Sedalia 41-30.
Johnson says it did not matter who emerged from the South Division, the Mustangs are just ready to get back on the field.
"It didn't make a difference which team we played, the guys came out in practice today playing at a high tempo. They're excited to get going."
The Mustangs open up the playoffs Friday in Sedalia. Game two will be held in St. Joseph Saturday, and game three will be at Phil Welch Stadium Sunday if necessary.
