Three Blasts Planned to Bring Down Atchison Bridge

(ATCHISON, Kan.) Demolition of the old Amelia Earhart bridge is set to conclude with a bang.

Blast demolition dates have been set for Sept. 30, Oct. 4, and Oct. 14. All three blasts are scheduled for 9 a.m.

The general public is welcome to view the blasts from the Riverside Park area off River Road in Atchison.

Reschedule dates, should the blasts be cancelled due to weather are Oct. 1, Oct. 7, and Oct. 15.

City streets in downtown Atchison will be closed beginning at 4 a.m. on each of the blast days.

Officials suggest those wishing to view the demolition access the park from Atchison Road east to River Road.
