Two Killed in Plane Crash at Downtown Kansas City Airport

The pilot and lone passenger were killed after the plane went down just after takeoff.
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The pilot and a lone passenger were killed when a small plane crashed at the Charles B. Wheeler Airport Sunday afternoon.

An FAA spokesman says the pilot reported engine problems just after takeoff. Officials say the Mooney, single engine plane took off from the downtown airport and crashed in a field between the airport and the Missouri River around 2:45.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash. The victims names have not been released.
