Voters Approve Tax Levy Increase in Lathrop

Voters have passed the measure with 55-percent of the vote. The increase will give the Lathrop Fire District an extra $60,000 a year.
(LATHROP, Mo.) Voters have passed a tax levy increase to help pay for improvements at the Lathrop Fire District.

The measure passed with 55-percent of the vote Tuesday.

The increase will give the fire district an extra $60,000 a year. The fire department hasn't seen a budget chance since 1994.

The money will be used to fire a full time firefighter and pay for upgrades to one of their trucks.

"We need to upgrade some equipment, we have a rescue unit that is overly used," said Gene Schoonover, the Vice President of the First District Board.

The fire district serves roughly 45-hundred people in Lathrop, Turney and a small portion of Caldwell County.
