(ATCHISON, Ks.) The skyline has changed once again along U.S. Highway 59 between Kansas and Missouri.

The first section of the old Amelia Earhart Bridge tumbled into the Missouri River Wednesday morning.

After a brief delay, it only took seconds for the high truss steel spanning the length of the bridge to fall into the water.

Dozens gathered along Riverfront Park in Atchison to watch the demolition of the historic structure.

Crews immediately went to work removing the steel from the river.

A second blast is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. That blast will bring down a bridge pier on the Kansas side.

The final blast, set for Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m., will remove a pier located in the Missouri River channel.
