Whitehead Creek Project to Cause Weekend Road Closure in St. Joseph

Crews plan to install a 78-inch diameter pipe on South 6th Street near Atchison Street this Friday. The work is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Work on the Whitehead Creek Stormwater Separation project will cause a detour for drivers in St. Joseph this weekend.

Crews plan to install a pipe on South 6th Street near Atchison Street this Friday. The work is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The bypass pipe will be placed under the road to transport stormwater runoff from the Whitehead Creek Basin to the Missouri River. The pipe runs from east of 17th Street and Garfield Avenue to 6th Street.

The project's goal is to improve the Missouri River's water quality and other waterways by reducing combined sewer overflows. The project also eliminates the cost of treating dry weather creek water at the treatment plant. The City expects the project to be completed by next summer.

The weekend pipe work on 6th Street is expected to last through 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9. The City suggests drivers find an alternate route during the construction. Drivers heading south on 6th Street will still be able to access MFA and Rent-All during the road closure.
