( ST. JOSEPH, MO. ) A heat advisory goes into effect at 1pm this afternoon as temperatures reach the mid to upper 90s. Factoring in the humidity, heat index values will be between 100-105 degrees. Mostly sunny skies are expected this afternoon. Be sure to drink plenty of water and limit time outside in the dangerous heat. The heat advisory will remain in effect until 8pm Friday. Winds will be blowing out of the south at 10 to 15 miles per hour and gusting up to 20. Tonight won't bring too much relief from the high heat as lows will only be in the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance for showers and storms overnight. Friday will be similar to today with highs in the mid 90s and heat index readings above 100 degrees. The evening hours will bring scattered showers and storms to the north of the viewing area, but a few may be farther south and bring some rainfall as the weekend begins.
